There’s NOT a silver bullet!

I’ve been in several conversations this week with people who have the belief that building a business can be done quickly; you just need that ONE thing that will make it all happen.

Unfortunately, this is not the case. If it was, every one of us would have a thriving business, enjoying large paychecks and chilling out on the beach in the Caribbean.

Social media marketing is NOT a silver bullet. It takes time and energy to build a community of people who resonate with you and your business brand. There are many programs that will grow your followers and impress you and your friends with the big numbers, but that is NOT the way to build a community of people who want what you offer.

Here are some common Misconceptions:

  1. I want more followers then people I follow. Really? When I see that equation on Twitter I think, wow, this person is not that interested in their tribe. If you are a rock star or actor, that makes sense, but in business, not so much!
  2. I can grow my list in one month and rock it out and sell my programs and become the expert. Not going to happen. Again, it takes time, nurturing and patience.
  3. I need a ROI (return on investment) quickly and don’t have time to build relationships. Well, that means you won’t get the ROI you are looking for.

The bottom line is it takes time, effort, a great mentor who knows how to build a business. You also need accountability partners and a mastermind to keep you on track. But the biggest thing entrepreneurs need is patience. Yep, that’s it, patience and the ability to keep moving forward no matter what!

My homework for you this week is to connect each day with your social networks, both Twitter and Facebook and LinkedIn too. Tell them what you are up to, engage, keep it real and keep moving forward!
